Winnebago, the popular manufacturer of recreational vehicles, has announced a new line of zero emission vehicles. Winnebago Hybrid RV.
In partnership with Motiv Power Sytstems, Inc., a manufacturer of medium-load electric chassis, the brand will produce a 100% electric vehicle designed for short urban distances in two-dimensional configurations: a 33-foot and a 38-foot. Specifications include six to eight battery units with 85 to 125 mile range. It will use Motiv’s all-electric EPIC Class A chassis, based on the Ford F53, which includes its motorhome hull with many compartmental cockpit options.
“Motiv’s EPIC all-electric chassis, combined with Winnebago Industries’ renowned commercial shell, is ideal for end-users looking for reliable performance and functionality,” said Motiv CEO Jim Castelaz. “We are delighted to be working with Winnebago Industries as we work together to develop the electric utility vehicle market.”
Its short-distance urban travel will be useful for applications such as mobile blood collection centers, mobile medical units – all of which require short-distance travel with limited interior structure.
There is still no word on its scope or load performance figures.
Winnebago sees the Boldt as an all-season motorhome that can adapt to both urban and wilderness environments. It’s also a generator-free camper thanks to its Pure3 Advanced Energy system, using rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that can provide enough juice to power the Boldt’s on-board equipment for hours.
The Boldt motorhome is joined by a refreshed motorhome called View, a vehicle that, according to Winnebago, is the best selling diesel motorhome in North America. Like the Boldt, the View is based on a Mercedes Sprinter and the new model features a superShell sleeper bridge with improved insulation and new equipment.
In addition to these Mercedes campers, there is the Forza 34T Class A motorhome, equipped with a new electric wheelchair lift and other accommodation adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility, in order to present the personalization options offered to buyers. For those who prefer trailers to all-in-one campers, Winnebago also offers new floor plans for its Minnie Series trailers, including the Micro Minnie hitch and Minnie Drop 210.
RV Experience will be held March 12-14 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“Winnebago sees the first customers of this new electric option in its segment of specialized vehicles, such as mobile medical units, Bloodmobiles, bookmobiles, etc.,” said Ashis Bhattacharya, Vice President of Strategic Planning and Development. from Winnebago. “We plan to support customers looking for an electric VR in the future.”
