With an interior that is as welcoming as it is innovative, high-quality roads and a small, three-cylinder petrol engine, the Peugeot 3008 is the best compact SUV of the moment.
The Peugeot 3008 is not just another SUV in this increasingly congested category. It is enough to enter it to be convinced, so much its cabin is superbly staged . The i-Cockpit , organized around a small steering wheel , is full of sight. The set is modern, elegant and ergonomic to use . Despite a few hiccups, the quality is also there, and if the habitability is not exceptional , we appreciate the space offered to the occupants of the benchand the volume of the trunk. The modularity, for its part, is content with the essentials, namely folding back bench seats from the bunker and a sliding chassis floor that can take two positions (option to 250 €, July 2017).
On the motor side, the small 1.2 PureTech of 130 hp is very recommendable. Present at low rpm , sturdy 3000 rpm , almost inaudible at idle and devoid of vibrations , this 3-cylinder looks much bigger than it is. Only reproaches: he does not appreciate the high speed and, above all, generates incongruous shocks after shifting gears when he is assisted by the (unpleasant) manual gearbox . In short, it is better to opt for the automatic transmission with converter EAT6( € 1,600, July 2017), which suppresses these swings in the city. At the price, however, of a certain nonchalance: hunting with CO2 obligates, the transmission requires to pass the higher ratio as soon as possible, sacrificing the reactivity . If this does not mean much sobriety - 8.7 l / 100 km on average , against 7.9 l with the manual transmission – the accreditation of use is well to go. The 1.2 PureTech is even shadowing the 1.6 THP 165 EAT6 ( 1,700 €, July 2017), barely more powerful.
Salty prices at the top of the range
This Peugeot is all the more pleasant to drive because the damping offers a remarkable progressivity , especially on the most deformed pavements. This comfort of choice is coupled with excellent road qualities . Efficiency, fun and safety are part, even if the steering wheel could better signal to the driver the arrival at the limits of adhesion . Finally, if the Peugeot 3008 shows a very good standard equipment at the entry level , its prices go up high-end : 34,250 € in version 1.2 PureTech EAT6 Crossway, when the most expensive Renault Kadjar 1.2 TCe 130 EDC , Although less convincing, does not exceed € 32,500.
