Iconic model of the Suzuki range, the Japanese manufacturer has nevertheless the make adjustments to the new Vitara 4 As one of the pioneers of what is now commonly called the high-growth segment SUV / Crossover compact, the Vitara left his holding of all-terrain vehicle for a skyline and especially chic in order to face competition from increasingly large and sharpened the Renault Captur image that takes a segment in France, which now represents over 20% the market. With a design with more sharp angles which gives it strength, durability and style, the new Suzuki Grand Vitara has no intention to decline as in the previous generation in different bodies. So to review Vitara “cut” 3 door Grand Vitara and Grand Vitara and long live!
SELF ON SEGMENT
Launched in 1988 while we do not talk yet urban crossover as now, the Vitara is then displayed in all-terrain vehicle. The design “rustic” of the time positions frankly search. Compact, his real competitor is none other than the Toyota RAV4 with whom he “scrap” over generations. With the 4th happens in April 2015, the RAV4 is not really the target for since the market was “confidential” exploded and now competitors tumble around with Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka, Nissan Juke or the new Fiat 500X and even the Jeep Renegade. Legitimate in the segment of which he is one of the precursors, the Vitara is reinvented with happiness.
Placed below the S-Cross in terms of size, the Vitara 4 which measures 4.17 m includes many components, starting with its platform, its engines and transmissions. To make it simple while being shorter in wheelbase, all that is not seen is almost common S-Cross. For the rest, the Vitara stands out from his brother more urban with a more athletic design in genuine 4×4 spirit that has no S-Cross.
Inside, the new Suzuki Grand Vitara offers adequate roominess despite compact dimensions. More functional than really hyper worked, it feels good and quickly found its brands once onboard. The board nice side to the eye is unfortunately not very qualitative with plastic “Japanese”. Suzuki will have to hire a flexible plastic specialist to provide a day of comfortable materials the finger and the eye. Very properly equipped, this upscale version of finishing Pack includes many safety features, including automatic emergency braking and comfort. Thus we find the center of the dashboard touch screen on which driver multiple functions including GPS and rear camera always useful. The Bluetooth connection is also standard and is especially useful on entry-level versions and middle manages the connection between a smartphone and a Mirror Link application to reproduce the contents of the phone on the screen central and therefore to use a non-integrated application of such navigation. If the system can still be improved, as dependent on the quality of the telephone network to where it is, it nevertheless makes navigation and other connected applications more accessible than the price of a GPS. Problem does not arise on finishing high end of the new Vitara Pack that integrates this valuable series of GPS. Phew honor is safe!
IN FULL VERSION
For this test in Portugal in the Lisbon area, we opted for a 4×4 version AllGrip premium finish Pack.Suzuki has simplified the range that revolves around two engines 1.6 liter petrol and diesel 120 hp, two 4×2 and 4×4 transmissions AllGrip and 3 finishes. The transmission AllGrip view of the S-Cross is nothing but a clever wheel drive that acts as needed when the grip is lacking. When all goes well, the Vitara becomes a two wheel. A selector positioned between the two seats can choose from 4 pre-programmed driving modes; Auto, Snow, Sport and Lock with a 50/50 lock on all 4 wheels to get out of a bad situation. Sport mode when all-wheel turns, the distribution on all 4 wheels is predominant on the rear axle to get a car to drive behavior. Rather nice, it feels good on loose sand soil type.
On the road, the new Suzuki Grand Vitara fights like hell with a healthy and balanced handling. Its mass content of 1295 kg, with 4×4 transmission remains very decent, makes the dynamic despite its 120 hp turbo diesel engine, Fiat origin, which compensates for its versatility with its 320 Nm of torque . Only downside, the very firm suspension that seems locked on the rear axle degrades comfort by “tapping” as soon as the coating is degraded. A firmness on the rear axle that is also found on version 4×2 yet lighter about 200 kg.
With its new fourth-generation Vitara (Suzuki Grand Vitara) which retains the DNA of the brand with all-wheel drive, Suzuki has a strong and legitimate ambitions. Rather pretty with its two-tone presentation, its customization offers, technological content, its roominess, its more efficient engines and two 4×2 and 4×4 transmissions, the Japanese compact SUV is even more attractive than its tariff offer on the environment and the high end is really well placed.
