The Qajar premiere during official presentation on 2 February in Paris. But Renault had at the time gave little information on its first compact crossover … and most people had left aboard. It was not until the Geneva Motor Show to take place inside and have more details on the version, equipment and engines.
We will not dwelling too much on the design of the car, which was already mentioned last month. Just a few additional remarks after observing the various copies present in Geneva: it is not very original, the Qajar’s fun to watch . There are two sizes of wheels: 17 and 19 inches. For the smallest, it has an effect wheels! A close cousin of the Nissan Qashqai , the Qajar uses the structure of the Japanese … and it shows when you’re facing him.
Inside, it does not particularly like being aboard a Renault. If the dashboard is very different from the Qashqai, the elements are the same places … and some are common (as the climate controls or buttons for power windows). But compared to the Asian, the whole is lighter. The Qajar makes us think of the Peugeot 3008 with its center tunnel high up and grab handle on the passenger side.
Good news: the first Qajar leaves a positive opinion on its finish, with foamed materials that cover large areas. Renault does not repeat the mistake of Captur little brother . Fortunately, since the Qajar will address a more affluent and therefore more demanding.
Returning to the base and maximum parts of the Qashqai, the Qajar not entitled to many features to simplify the everyday and would make a family Renault worthy of the name . The practical drawer glove box is for example absent. Modularity is basic but effective, with a bench 1 / 3-2 / 3 that folds automatically. For a flat surface with the boot floor can be met. To transport long objects, the front passenger seat folds. The volume in standard configuration is 472 dm3.

For diesel, the choice will be between the 1.5 dCi 110 hp (manual or automatic transmission with 6-EDC) and the 1.6 dCi 130 hp . The new 1.6 biturbo 160 hp is missing for the moment.
The e diesel 130 hp will be the only available with four-wheel drive , logical recovery Qashqai. The operation is simple with three modes : Lock (the system locks the torque distribution of 50/50), Auto (distribution varies depending on traction conditions, with up to 50% on the rear axle) and 2 wheels drive. Tensile models can be equipped with Extended Grip, an enhanced traction control improves traction on slippery surfaces (a device coupled in series with M + S tires “Mud and Snow” with a specific tread ).
Renault presented on the stand two special finishes: X-Mod and Bose. The first is typical escape with roof bars and mineral gray protective skis and specific 17-inch wheels. On board, there is a unique upholstery, and ocher stitching on the handle of maintenance and instrumentation cap. The X-Mod is available in 4 × 2 with Extended Grip and 4 × 4 (tires M + S series).
Bose premium is typed . Derived from the Intens finish, it has a complete equipment with full LED optics, rearview camera and aid niche. The steering wheel is covered in Nappa leather. Obviously, the most important changes concern the audio system with: center speaker “who gives his all its spatiality” six speakers in the rest of the interior “for a rich, balanced sound,” a Digital amplifier and a subwoofer.
Prices have not been announced, but it will not be long.
