The Kia Sportage family continues to grow with the launch of this new model; the Sportage PHEV 2023. It will be sold alongside available American models with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or as a hybrid with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. It is a continuation of the well-known car, and that arrives with improvements at the aesthetic level and at the same time an appetizing technological package that make it a very attractive car, with everything necessary to be among the best in the segment.

The mechanical qualities that it debuts


Driving the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV will be a rewarding experience for its owners. This model features a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, complete with 177 horsepower. A 66.9 kW electric motor and a lithium polymer battery are coupled to this motor. The only transmission available is a six-speed automatic. The Korean company hasn’t announced what the combined power is, but we expect it to be a little over 260 horsepower, or the same as the Hyundai Tucson PHEV.

Another detail that should be taken into consideration when deciding to buy this car is that Kia has also equipped the Sportage PHEV with a high-efficiency 7.2 kW on-board charger and points out that the full charge will take approximately 2 hours when connected to a level 2 charger, something that represents a very good news since it minimizes the time of recharging and will allow the users use the vehicle again in the shortest possible time.

More technical details

Elsewhere, the Sportage PHEV features an integrated electronic brake and offers regenerative braking. Epa numbers will be announced at a later date, but it should be the most efficient Sportage variant on sale. Kia is also aiming for an all-electric range of 32 miles.

Part of its aesthetic

Buyers will be able to pick up the keys to a Sportage PHEV in the X-Line PHEV AWD or X-Line Prestige PHEV AWD versions. Like the X-Line variant available with the other powertrain options, the PHEV version has a tougher exterior design that includes unique bumpers, side mirrors, roof racks and window frames in gloss black, and alloy wheels in gloss black.

The front looks bold, with sporty qualities and aggressive touches, especially with the daytime running lights that have the shape of a boomerang. Both the grille and the lower air intake will serve to keep the engine in optimal temperature conditions.

On the sides the wheels are very attractive, and are combined with silver and black color. The door locks are the same body color. This car has a roof grille.

The rear shows its radio antenna in the form of a shark fin, decorative sports spoiler, brake or stop lights in LED, slogan of the manufacturer in the center of the trunk door, auxiliary lights embedded in the bumper, among other details.

Security also increases

Both versions come standard with a plethora of security features as standard. These include driver attention warning, LED headlights with high beam assist, lane keeping assist, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance, rear occupant alert, rearview monitor with dynamic parking monitor, reverse parking distance warning, blind spot collision avoidance, rear crossing. Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist, safe exit warning and intelligent speed limit assist.

The flagship X-Line Prestige PHEV AWD has all these features and adds blind spot view monitor, forward collision avoidance with turn-off capability, forward parking distance warning, high driving assist, navigation-based intelligent cruise control curve, reverse parking collision avoidance, remote smart parking assist and smart cruise control with Stop and Go.
