The electric cars are in luck in Europe. Some of the most important car manufacturers in the world have come together to form a joint venture to create a high-power cargo network in the Old Continent .
Among the manufacturers involved in this project are the BMW Group , Daimler AG , Ford Motor Company and the Volkswagen Group . From this union will emerge a high power charging network called IONITY that will develop 400 fast charging stations along the main European roads until the year 2020 .
The creation of this network has already started in 2018 with a total of 20 charging stations available, located in Germany, Austria and Norway and separated by intervals of 120 kilometers away. During 2018, the network will be expanded to more than 100 stations .
Each of these stations will have a capacity of up to 350 kW and will use the European standard CCS(Combined Charging System), which will significantly reduce the recharge times. In addition, it will be open to all brands and will be implemented throughout Europe .
