Buying roof racks pays off. The second option is to buy a larger car. But driving in a big car, if you use its full capacity only a few times a year, is not worth it. On the contrary, roof racks with the right accessories will drastically expand the usability of your car, but when you don’t need them, you can leave them in the basement or garage.
So how do you choose the right roof rack? “One option is to buy it from an authorized dealer of your car brand. However, this solution is often significantly overpriced and does not guarantee the highest quality, “says Ferdinand Rezník, CEO of TAZAR Group , which specializes in the sale of towing equipment and roof racks. “The second option is to buy from a specialized seller, where the offer is often many times wider and there are several brands of media to choose from. At TAZAR Group, we only sell proven, high-quality media that we have tested. ”
When choosing a carrier, its load capacity must be considered depending on what you plan to carry on it. However, be careful, the roof of the car also has its load capacity, which you must not exceed. “A quality carrier should have TÜV and City CrashTest certificates. It is a guarantee of safety and quality, “recalls Ferdinand Rezník.
The roof of each car is different and the mounting of the carriers themselves is based on this. “The basic division of cars with regard to the roof is into those with and without longitudinal rails.” The roof racks are divided accordingly. The skis are mostly universal and fit a very wide range of cars. However, carriers for cars without skis are standard and usually fit on one vehicle, or on similar vehicles from the same concern.(e.g. VW Group). It’s all good to keep in mind, but a quality dealer knows all this and will offer you the right variant of the carrier for your car. When choosing, you only need to know the basic information about your car, such as make, model and year of manufacture. “However, beware of the turning points, when the old model was still being sold on the market and at the same time it was already possible to buy a new model,” points out Ferdinand Rezník. However, with the right information, you can easily choose a carrier through the online store, but if you have any questions, it is always a good idea to consult the selection by phone.
However, the choice of carrier does not only affect the type of car itself, but also your preference. You can choose whether you want a steel or aluminum carrier. The advantage of the first is the price and easier installation of accessories using so-called U-screws, the second is lower weight, more beautiful design and better aerodynamics. U-bolts are generally not suitable for aluminum supports because the cross members are too thick. The reason is that aluminum is softer than steel. Fastening of the accessories is done by means of T-screws, the head of which is inserted into the groove in the crossbar and tightened with a nut.
Finally, Ferdinand Rezník adds that if you have an old carrier at home and you think that it could also fit your new car, he would rather consult this option with experts. You will avoid the possible risk that the carrier will hold on to the car, but the manufacturer has not recommended it for the car, because it does not hold fast enough and has not passed the safety tests with the car.
