Ford Evos unveiled in China: it may have a future in North America

Ford no longer makes sedans, but continues to look for avenues other than SUVs. This is precisely when the Evos comes in , a raised “car” that features off-road capability.

The last product of its kind that we saw was the Honda Accord Crosstour. Almost everyone agrees that this has not been Honda’s greatest stylistic success. At the Shanghai Auto Show, Ford brings back this formula of the car a little higher with singular features.

We are inspired by the new generation of design with the Evos. We recognize features of the Edge and, even, of the utility Equador sold elsewhere in the world. With this high hatch hatchback approach on wheels, it is hoped to meet the still existing demand of people who don’t want a real SUV and all the compromises they have to make.

For now, Ford maintains that it does not plan to market the Evos outside of China. To some extent, the fact that the builder designed it in conjunction with local partner Changan suggests that this will be the case. However, now that Ford has withdrawn the Fusion from North America and the Mondeo from Europe, there is necessarily a void, and Ford has already ruled that it will be filled.

We therefore wonder if the Evos would not be this answer, especially since we have seen spy images of a vehicle with a similar body on North American and European roads.

Technically, Ford adopts the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder found under the hood of many other vehicles. For example, in the Ford Bronco Sport , this engine develops an output of 245 horsepower and produces a torque of 275 pound-feet. Obviously, depending on the options, the Evos is either strict traction or all-wheel-drive.

Inside, Ford puts on quite a show with a 27-inch monitor in front of the occupants as a multimedia screen. For its part, the driver benefits from a 12.3-inch screen as a display of the instrumentation. With its SYNC technology, it is possible, just like in the Ford Mustang Mach-E, to make updates from the cloud. In the batch of novelties which will extend to the rest of the range in the near future, a virtual personal assistant is included for the first time.

Clearly, the Evos can turn heads. It remains to be seen whether Ford will really have the audacity to launch such a product in North America. If so, we shouldn’t wait until model year 2023.
