Ferrari is facing an unusual situation for the brand, it may have to recall around 10,000 vehicles. The cause is a failure in the brake system that presents a fluid leak, something potentially dangerous when driving.
Ferrari is not immune from recalls. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration just issued a recall of 9,985 North American Ferraris . It covers several models and years and the reason for the recall is due to brake failure . What’s unusual about the recall is that NHTSA cannot determine which cars could be affected. Ferrari does not know what is causing the problem.
What models are affected and what could be the reason for the failure?
Therefore, the owners of these cars should not drive them until Ferrari finds the problem. They can then take your car to a Ferrari dealership to have it fixed.
The recall includes models 458 Italia 2010-2015 , 458 Spider 2012-2015 , 458 Speciale 2014-2015 , 458 Speciale Aperta 2015 and 488 GTB and 488 Spider 2016-2019 . There is a brake fluid leak , but the recall doesn’t say where. The NHTSA says both Ferrari and Bosch are trying to determine the cause. So it’s probably the pump and brake booster assembly made by Bosch .
“The Ferrari 458 and 488 vehicle models are no longer in production. Later Ferrari models do not use the same brake / booster master cylinder component, ”the company says.
Instrument panel alert
If you must drive your Ferrari, be aware of the warning light on the instrument panel. It will light up if the amount of liquid falls below 50% . The NHTSA warns if that happens, “Get off the road as soon as it is safe to do so, and then contact Ferrari Roadside Assistance and have you towed to the nearest authorized Ferrari dealer .”
“Ferrari is not yet aware of the root cause of this problem, nor of the number of vehicles actually affected by it,” says the company. “We intend to send an interim notification letter to all 458 and 488 vehicle owners to advise them of this issue.” He says that if he could determine the cause, the number of cars to be recalled would be less.
The automaker hopes to know the cause before Christmas
Owners are expected to hear from Ferrari sometime during the holidays. Notifications should start arriving around Christmas. It is hoped that when this happens, Ferrari will know the cause and can begin to reunite the 458 and 488 cars affected.
