Designed for military and civilian purposes, the Unimog is an off-road vehicle that is used for almost any activity you can imagine, from clearing snow streets to transporting troops. This is the most capable Mercedes created to date, even more than the Mercedes G-Class . Now, in addition, it enters the segment of the campers as an alternative for the enthusiasts of the camping and the life in the nature. I present the EarthCruiser Explorer XPR440 .
Created by EarthCruiser Australia based on the Unimog U 430 , the XPR440 has a steel front bumper that houses auxiliary lights, hooks and a winch capable of pulling up to 9,000 kilograms. In the back we find a unique RV body with multiple compartments, including one for an outdoor barbecue. We also have solar appendages, a bike rack, an additional winch and an optional hydraulic lifting system with four poles.
An interior at the height of the best of adventures
If the exterior already impresses, the interior will not disappoint you. It offers amenities such as air conditioning, microwave, refrigerator with freezer and even a washing machine, as well as leather upholstery, a full bathroom and a bed. It is equipped with two separate tanks, one for water with a capacity of up to 860 liters, and another for fuel, with 800 liters , which allows, according to Mercedes, have a range of up to 3,500 kilometers.
In addition to the satellite navigation system, the EarthCruiser Explorer XPR440 can be equipped with five cameras that record up to 45 days of video and even a chainsaw to cut through the most unexplored roads. The technical specifications have not been fully published, but we know that the XPR440 has differential locks and a total traction system with gearbox. The engine delivers 304 HP and can be associated with a manual or automatic change.
And if all this is not impressive enough, traveling between countries where the steering wheel position is to the right or to the left is much easier thanks to Unimog’s VarioPilot transferable steering system . This system allows the steering wheel and pedals to move from a driving configuration on the right to a driving on the left, or vice versa, in less than 30 seconds.
