Ducati Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S 2022 Review

The advanced Ducati Panigale V4 is the protagonist of the fifth episode of the Ducati World Première 2022web series. A sporty refined in every aspect, from the aesthetic to the technical part, also proposed in the S version.

Ducati Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S 2022 Review

The Ducati Panigale V4 for 2022

A new result in the continuous exchange of experience and knowledge made by Ducati Corse in the sports field, then translated into series production. A progress that ranges from aerodynamics to the electronic part, without forgetting the chassis and the propulsive heart.
You immediately notice a new fairing,in particular the aerodynamics revised by Ducati engineers stand out. New, more compact airfoos feature a dual-profile setting, which offers an increase in efficiency with the same vertical load of up to 37 kg at 300 km/h. In the lower area of the fairing there are redefined extraction sockets to optimize the cooling and performance proposed by the engine, especially when turning on the track.

Speaking of ergonomics, the tank is characterized by a new shape in the rear area, also known as “fit”, allowing better support to the rider under braking, with a lower commitment of the arms. Overall, the setting favors a better insertion of the rider, also optimizing the contact area of the arms during the hanging off phase, when you lean out of the bike in the middle of the curve. In addition, the saddle is flatter and has a different coating in double fabric, attenuating the tendency to advance the rider under braking and also facilitating movements, as reported.

From an aesthetic point of view, the new Panigale V4 is characterized by a new graphic design defined by the Ducati Style Center with black logos on the fairings dyed red, also on the S version the double fabric saddle is two-tone and there are also red tags on the black rims.
There are also accessories in the Ducati Performance catalogue, which include homologated parts and others expressly designed for use on the track.

Ducati Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S 2022 Review

The Ducati Panigale V4 S is equipped with a new Öhlins NPX25/30 pressurized fork with event-based electronic management, characterized by a damping system with pressurized cartridge borrowed from that of the Öhlins racing forks, minimizing the risk of cavitation of the hydraulic fluid compared to a traditional system.
The travel of the new fork is 125 mm, a figure increased by 5 mm compared to that which equips the Panigale V4 of 2021. The possibility of adopting softer settings is highlighted, given a stiffness of the springs passed to 9.5 N / mm, proposing greater confidence during the most intense braking and preserving a little margin compared to the travel surface, as indicated.

There is also an Öhlins TTX36 mono-shock absorber and an Öhlins steering damper, always equipped with an event-based control system, being able to customize the intensity of the suspension intervention according to the individual driving phases and vary the operating parameters of the individual hardware components. Aspects that represent a higher level of control of the dynamics of the bike.
The pivot of the aluminum single-arm swingarm appears 4 mm higher than the previous model and this allows an increase in the anti-squat effect, that is, a decrease in the sinking of the rear at the exit of the curve and in the phase of reopening of the gas to the advantage of stability in progression.

The braking system includes discs with a diameter of 330 mm and Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers® with four pistons of 30 mm in diameter each, while behind there is a single 245 mm disc combined with a 2-piston caliper.

The Panigale V4 S is equipped with 3-spoke wheels forged in aluminium alloy that fit Pirelli DIABLO tyres™ Supercorsa SP 120/70 ZR17 in front and 200/60 ZR 17 at the rear.

Engine

The engine, as mentioned, is a Desmosedici Stradale. A 1,103 cm³ heart in the Euro 5 version and further evolved for 2022, through the adoption of dedicated technical elements. The engine has been upgraded in the lubrication circuit, associated with a new oil pump that requires less power. The increased diameter of the silencer outlets allows an attenuation of the back pressure at the exhaust and the increase in performance.

A new Power Mode logic is implemented with four configurations: Full, High, Medium, Low. The Full and Low ones are newly developed, while High and Medium employ a new strategy. The Power Mode Full is the sportiest and allows the engine to express its maximum potential, without electronic filters, except in the case of first gear.

Moving on to the Power Mode High and Medium, there is a new Ride by Wire map management system with specific calibration for each of the six gears, allowing in any case an optimal boost. The Power Mode Low, then, has been designed for driving on the road, limiting the maximum power to 150 horsepower and proposing a manageable response.
High interesting novelty is the adoption of a new gearbox with a lengthening of the ratio for the first, second and sixth gears. A type of ratio used on the Panigale V4 R model deployed in the World Superbike and more oriented to use on the track. The first gear was lengthened by 11.6%, while the second by 5.6%. The smaller speed jump between the first two ratios also allows the DQS, given a new calibration, to work in a more functional way taking into account the overall performance. The sixth gear has been lengthened by 1.8% and, in light of an increase in power, the top speed is 5 km/h higher than the previous Panigale V4.
The power reaches a peak of 215.5 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and the increase in power is 1.5 horsepower compared to the previous version, rising to 2.5 horsepower beyond the peak of maximum power at 14,500 rpm. The torque reaches 123.6 Nm (12.6 kgm) at 9,500 rpm, and already from 6,000 rpm 80% of the torque is available, according to the indications.

Performance can still be optimized with the adoption of racing exhaust systems in the Ducati Performance catalog. In order to be able to run even on circuits with more stringent noise limits, there is a new all-titanium exhaust, made in collaboration with Akrapovič, which falls within the noise limit of 105 dB. They become 102 dB by adopting the killer dB. The exhaust system has high silencers next to the tail and guarantees an increase in power of 12.5 horsepower, reaching 228 horsepower. It also increases the maximum torque figure to 131 Nm, bearing in mind an overall weight reduction of 5 kg. A new exhaust system added to a more compact full racing version located under the engine and already available in the catalog, also Akrapovič and entirely in titanium, which for the same performance attenuates the weight of 6 kg and has a noise of 109 dB, which as indicated drops to 107 dB with the dB-killer.

Availability

The Ducati Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S models for 2022,in the well-known “Ducati Red”colour, will be offered in Ducati network dealerships from December 2021.
