The Renault group\’s announcement is not a real surprise. In November 2019, we revealed that Renault\’s electric city car , sold in China (2,658 units in 2 months) and in 2022 in India, would arrive in Europe in 2021 under the Dacia brand.
This 3.73 m SUV-like city car will be the cheapest on the market. Known under the internal code name BBG, it corresponds no more and no less to the Renault K-ZE marketed since 2019 in China. Like the latter, the electric Dacia will be produced by eGT New Energy in Shiyan , a joint venture created in 2017 by the Renault-Nissan Alliance and DongFeng.
271 km of autonomy in NEDC
Like its Chinese cousins (Renault, Fengxing, Venucia), the Dacia version will differ only in the style of the front part (grille, shield, headlights, etc.). Its 33 kW electric motor
(45 hp and 105 km / h) is powered by a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and the range is 271 km (NEDC cycle), even 350 km in urban use (at 60 km / h max). These figures will be lower on the WLTP approval cycle which comes into force on 1 st March 2020. But the battery represents the wholesale price of this type of vehicle, it merely an average capacity, enough for urban use . As for recharging, it takes 30 minutes to recover 80% of the capacity on a quick plug.
The Dacia K-ZE, at what price?
In China, the Renault K-ZE is sold for the equivalent of € 7,200-9,200. In France, the price of the electric Dacia should be around 14,000 to 15,000 €, according to Eric Feunteun (former director of the electric program). Knowing that the ecological bonus will drop from 6,000 to
5,000 € in 2021, then to 4,000 € in 2022, the Romanian electric car will be available around 10,000 €. A small revolution on the electric car market since the Skoda Citigo iV is sold from € 15,600 deducted bonus. In terms of equipment, the Chinese K-ZE is far from bare since it can receive the rear view camera, the multimedia system on an 8-inch touch screen, GPS, and a partially digital instrument block … on the high-end version.
Around 20,000 to 30,000 units in Europe
According to an analysis cabin in the automotive industry, the Dacia K-ZE will be produced in the amount of 20,000 to 30,000 units for Europe. This will be sufficient to allow the brand to reduce its CO 2 average and avoid the Renault group paying fines in the context of CAFE. As for commercial outlets, the Renault group foresees its success in carpooling: “Young people will rent this kind of vehicle, and that is why we believe that the day when an electric vehicle from segment A arrives on the European market, it could have a huge success in carpooling. “ Olivier Murguet, Commercial Director at Renault and Regions.
After revolutionizing the market 15 years ago , with the low cost car, Dacia will shake up the electric market by introducing the first vehicle accessible to all. The manufacturer could take advantage of this anniversary date to unveil its small electric in the course of 2020.
