Chinese electric car GAC Aion LX Plus comes to market with 1000km+ range

Small range is one of the most frequently mentioned shortcomings of electric cars. In the case of the GAC Aion LX Plus SUV, Chinese customers can look forward to more than 1000 kilometers. At least on paper.

Chinese automakers are far enough away in electromobility and are crediting themselves with another interesting thing. With the new GAC Aion LX Plus SUV, you won’t be able to complain about the small range. We have a giant 144.4kWh Li-Ion NMC battery with an energy density of 205 Wh/kg at the battery level (i.e. not the cells in it). A simple calculation will tell us that the battery here weighs a “crazy” 704 kg. The car itself then weighs 2220-2240 kg, and the total weight can be 2720 kg. But it is not a very small car, it has 4835 mm in length, 1935 mm in width and 1685 mm in height at a wheelbase of 2920 mm.

The manufacturer gives an average consumption of 15.8 kWh/100 km, but this cannot be trusted with the size of the car and its weight. According to the NEDC standard, which is very inaccurate and, for example, is already leaving the EU (replaced by a more accurate WLTP), the car is supposed to go 1008 km on a single charge. In real conditions, we can expect more between 800-850 km, usually around 700 km. The maximum power is 180 kW at 16000 rpm, the torque is 350 Nm. The maximum speed is 170 km/h, permanently (for 30 minutes) it can then go 160 km/h.
Another car with a paper 1000 km is due to be brought by nio by the end of next year. Its ET7 is supposed to have a 150kWh battery, and in this case it should already be solid-state batteries.
