General Motors’ desire for electrification did not prevent the company from developing traditional combustion engines. For example, Chevrolet Performance unveiled the largest and most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine the division has ever created.

The 632 cubic inch (10.4 liter) unit, labeled ZZ632 / 1000, is specially designed for drag racing and is not intended for street use. Engineers could extract 1,004 hp and 876 lb-ft (1,188 Nm) of torque from the 8-cylinder engine.

The most powerful Chevrolet engine to date is the ZZ572 / 740R Deluxe, which develops 727 horsepower and 690 lb-ft (922 Nm).

The new ZZ632 / 1000 V8 has a maximum of 7,000 rpm, electronic fuel injection, forged aluminum pistons, as well as a forged steel crank and connecting rods.

Chevrolet said an engine performed 200 simulated runs without a problem during development.

The price of the most powerful V8 in Chevrolet history has yet to be announced, but we do know that the ZZ632 / 1000 will be shown to the public at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November. Production will begin in early 2022.
