This prototype anticipates the future electric X3 , which will arrive in 2020. It will be the first BMW all- rounder or SUV with a propulsion system of this type: the BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance is a plug-in hybrid. Currently, the only electric BMW is the i3.
The Concept iX3 has a 268 hp electric motor that is powered by a 70 kWh battery. The homologated autonomy under the WLPT cycle is 400 kilometers. BMW does not give much information about how it can be recharged, except that it is ready to be connected to power sockets up to 150 kW, which would allow it to be charged in 30 minutes. The power outlet is just behind the left front wheel.
The appearance of the BMW Concept iX3 is slightly different from that of the X3. For example, they change the grill (which is closed, since the refrigeration needs are lower), the bumpers or the tires. Some of these modifications serve to reduce the aerodynamic drag to the advance. The matt color that covers the body is called Moonstone Silver.
According to BMW, the electrical architecture is a new generation and “the electric motor, the transmission and the start electronics are grouped into a single component, which greatly facilitates their integration into different vehicle architectures”. At the moment, we do not know if the traction system will be two or four wheels.
The production version of the BMW Concept iX3 will be manufactured in Shenyang (China), under the agreement of BMW and Brilliance Automotive.
