We are in the era of the full-size electric van. It is only a matter of time before the three tenors of the category, the Ford F-150, the Chevrolet Silverado GMC Sierra and the Ram 1500, compete in this regard. If Ford has already begun marketing its model, and if GM has recently unveiled its own, Ram is still at the development stage with its electric 1500. However, a prototype has just been seen on the road.
The van you see on the screen is actually a development mule. In other words, the electric Ram 1500 might not look like it. Ram seems to have installed a battery and electric motors under the body of a Ram 1500 Big Horn equipped with a double cab and a 6.4-foot body.

It is even comical to see the inscription HEMI 5.7L on its hood. Obviously, Ram wants no one to know that this is an electric prototype!
However, if we rely on these images that were captured by the American media GM Authority, we see that this Ram is not equipped with an exhaust system. We also notice a funny folded bumper as well as coating at the height of the sills, to hide what is hidden underneath. At the rear, we can see an orange high voltage cable at the height of the suspensory elements. Moreover, these suspensions are of the independent wheel type with coil springs, a configuration similar to that of theFord F-150 Lightningand Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra EV. For this prototype, Ram probably used the suspension components of the Jeep Wagoneer.

It is still far too early to comment on the technical characteristics of the electric Ram 1500. We do know, however, from reliable sources that Ram could offer the option of a gasoline-powered range extender. This widget would recharge the battery, but also increase the maximum autonomy of the vehicle. Ram firmly believes that this technology will allow it to surpass the capabilities of its competitors.
