The third generation of the MINI of the BMW era hit the market in 2014 and is entitled to its second restyling six years later . And on this occasion, the restyling is visible with the naked eye, especially on the front of the MINI. The new MINI will be available from March 2021.
The restyling affects the entire range, both the 3 and 5-door models and the Cabriolet debut a more aerodynamic design and a slightly modified interior. By the way, improve your equipment and available options. Under the hood, however, there are no major changes to note.
The new MINI is distinguished by its squarer grille than the outgoing model and by sporting a huge horizontal body-colored stripe that covers most of the grille. It is the same stripe as on the outgoing MINI and supporting the license plate, but now adds more color to the MINI.
On the sides, round fog lights give way to vertical air intakes. The front end of the electric MINI Cooper SE also inherits the same aesthetic treatment in order to visually homogenize the thermal engine variants with the electric one.
The other changes are more subtle and include new contours for the wheel arches, LED side indicators, redesigned rear bumper and the rear fog lamp is now integrated into the rear apron as a narrow LED unit. LED taillights in the British “Union Jack” design are now standard.
Playing with Gradients and Piano Black
The restylings are usually accompanied by new colors available in the range and new wheel designs. This is also the case with the MINI which debuts five new alloy wheel designs and three new body colors.
As an option, customers can order a multi-tone roof painted in a gradient from blue to black, created from a new painting technique and extending from the windshield frame to the rear. According to Mini, the painting process induces slight nuances in each operation; therefore, no two copies are strictly identical.
The instrument cluster is now a 5-inch color screen, while the 8.8-inch infotainment screen across the range (previously the basic versions had a 6.6-inch) also has a frame. with Piano Black finish. But above all, the MINI debuts a new operating system for infotainment. Finally, the handbrake becomes electric on all MINIs.
No changes to the engines
In terms of equipment, the MINI can now feature a heated steering wheel and sports seats in the new Light Checkered color. But it also has active cruise control now with Stop & Go function and a new Lane Departure Warning ( warning of involuntary lane change ).
Under the hood nothing changes. The range of engines includes the 1.5 3-cylinder petrol turbo in powers of 75 hp, 102 hp and 136 hp, the 4-cylinder 2.0 turbo gasoline of 178 hp and 231 hp and the electric Cooper SE of 184 hp.
