The SEAT Leon CUPRA R, is the most sporting version of the León range . Its production is limited to 799 units, of which 40 are destined for Spain.
It is for sale with five-door body and carries the same 2.0-liter engine of the conventional SEAT León CUPRA . It has 310 horses if it mounts the manual change and 300 with the automatic DSG, both of six speeds. The traction is on the front wheels.
With manual exchange it costs 44 585 euros and with the automatic 46 375 euros. It is, therefore, 11 135 and 10 765 euros respectively more expensive than the SEAT León CUPRA with the same transmission.
The main alternatives are practically reduced to the Honda Civic Type R (320 hp) and the Opel Astra GTC OPC (280 hp), although this only has three doors. The price of the SEAT León Cupra R is much higher than that of these two models and similar to that of a Volkswagen Golf R , which has 310 horsepower and four-wheel drive. The BMW 1 Series M140i is somewhat more expensive and has traction to the rear wheels.
The changes it receives (with respect to the CUPRA) affect both aesthetics and dynamics. The body has new parts made of carbon fiber, such as a front spoiler and rear, the side skirts and the diffuser of the rear bumper. According to SEAT, «this aerodynamic package in carbon fiber is not a mere aesthetic issue. As in racing cars, they generate a greater aerodynamic load, improving efficiency, dynamic behavior, performance and safety in medium and high speed corners. In fact, the aerodynamic load has been improved by 12.5% ».
The rear-view mirror covers, the front bumper trims, the rims and the SEAT logo on the grille are painted in copper. The wheel arches are more prominent and three exterior colors will be available: Midnight Black, Pyrenean Gray and Pyrenean Gray Matt (it is the color that has the unit that appears in this article and its price is 2580 euros). The type seats have copper-colored seams, which are also present on the steering wheel and lever knob. These three elements are upholstered with Alcantara as well as the upholstery of the seats.
The changes in the chassis should make the CUPRA R more precise in curves than the CUPRA, although this already stands out for its excellent dynamic qualities. SEAT has modified the exhaust system, the spindles of the front axle to change the angle of fall (both the front axle and the rear axle the fall is negative and two degrees) and has readjusted the suspension with dampers of variable hardness (a what he calls DCC, acronym for Dynamic Chassis Control, is standard). In the version with manual transmission, the props the engine are more rigid. The front brake calipers are from the specialist Brembo and the discs are 370 mm in diameter and 32 mm thick (those of the León CUPRA are 340 x 30 mm). The tires are of the brand and model Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2.
