The new2018 Kia Stonic measures 4.14 meters in length. Its height -1,52 meters- is smaller than that of most of its competitors and that gives it a half-way between a tourism and an off-road. It can have engines of 84, 110 and 120 hp.
Some of its Competitors are the Citroën C3 Aircross , the Ford EcoSport , the Hyundai Kona , the Nissan Juke , the Renault Captur , the SsanYong Tivoli or the Suzuki Vitara . All of them may look more rustic than the Stonic, given its above-mentioned height, but really none are especially suitable for off-road use (perhaps the most, Suzuki).
It is for sale from 14 680 euros with an 84 hp gasoline engine. The Diesel of 110 horses is for sale from 17 630 euros. Of its rivals only the SsangYong Tivoli is cheaper, which in general is not as satisfying as the KIA. The Suzuki Vitara has a slightly lower price and a slightly less complete equipment; the rest are more expensive. List of diesel SUVs between 100 and 120 hp power with body length ranging between 4.1 and 4.3 meters.
If we entered the interior of the 2018 Kia Stonic without seeing the body, we would hardly have sensation of going in a raised vehicle. The layout of its seats and controls (pedals and steering wheel) is the usual in a normal tourism (such as the KIA Rio) and looks little like a light SUV (such as the Sportage ).
Both the space for the occupants and the cargo are intermediate in size compared to their main rivals. For example, the Nissan Juke has smaller rear seats and those of the Ford EcoSport are larger.
The KIA Stonic has a good relationship between price and product. It is an attractive and practical car in the simplicity (both for materials and technical solutions) and which does not lack equipment. It gives good service in a daily use, either by city or highway, as it has engines that give good response and acceleration.
The 1.0-liter, 120-horsepower gasoline engine makes the Stonic a fast vehicle on any type of track. In fact, it is possible that anyone who is not very interested in the benefits, have enough with the variant of this engine of 100 horses, which will arrive in 2018. With the Diesel engine of 110 horses the pace of running that can be sustained is also high and the thrust that is gained by stepping on the accelerator in long gears is even greater than that of gasoline. We have not tested the lower power engine.
The 84-horsepower KIA Stonic is distinguished by the naked eye because it is the only one with 15-inch wheels; the other two are about 17. For now, they all have a manual gearbox. By mid-2018, the Stonic with the 120-horsepower engine will be able to have an automatic seven-ratio gearbox.
Its equipment is very abundant. All Stonic have air conditioning, bluetooth connection for the phone, auxiliary connection and USB and a 7 “screen compatible with Carplay and Android Auto. Optionally there is a browser (with online services, such as traffic information, speed cameras or places of interest) and rear parking camera. The more expensive versions (Tech) have a package of driving assistants that is optional in the rest. This consists of emergency braking assistant in city, alert for change , fatigue detector, automatic connection of road lights (if the Stonic carries this package, there is a 3.5-inch screen in the instrumentation).
There are several possibilities for personalization. For example the roof can be painted in five different colors to the rest of the body (this option will be available, approximately, from the end of 2017). These colors are black, green, red, orange and white. The interior has dark fabric upholstery in the Concept and Drive versions. In the level of Tech equipment the interior can be chosen with details of several colors.
