In five days at the New York show, Dodge will unveil to the public its new brute, the Challenger SRT Demon. The new Challenger SRT Demon is designed to be the ultimate version of the Hellcat model, both for its awkward appearance and exceptional mechanics, especially for an imposing coupe (5.02 m long) and aging since it was born in 2008.
If the Challenger SRT Hellcat already has a killer look, with the Demon version, Dodge passes a course and offers us a car with the brutal, powerful and imposing look that probably seeks its roots in cars modified by some runners and preparers like Andy’s AutoSport (Challenger Duraflex Novara Wide Body Kit) or Liberty Walk (Challenger LB Works). However, the manufacturer adds a touch of finesse or discretion by removing the screws or fastening rings of large wings and avoiding big stickers or decorative strippings.
The demonic coupe also benefits from a new engine hood that is distinguished by the presence of a large air intake called Grabber Air or air sensor. This air intake is used to power the V8 HEMI 6.2 L Surpercharged which should see its power go from 717 to 757 hp.
To get maximum power, the V8 is compatible with racing fuel that announces an index of 100 octane. The coupe is thus the first series car in the world to be able to be powered both by premium fuel without octane octane 91 and octane. To be compatible with either fuel, the engine management module is connected to a button on the dashboard (HO button). Dodge explains that after a full 100-octane fuel, The driver presses this button. Then the ECU detects and confirms the presence of said fuel, in particular via the knock sensor. Once the warning light is on, the V8 Supercharged can be pushed to its maximum and even a little beyond.
Muscle car enthusiasts will have noticed the model’s wheels. They are not very large if compared with other rims offered on different versions of the Challenger since they are limited to an 18-inch diameter. If the dimension is contained, it is not the same for the tires and especially those of the rear which are in 315 / 40R18. These tires called NT05R Extreme Drag were developed specifically for the Challenger SRT Demon by the manufacturer Nitto. They are mainly intended for runs and track due to their specific gum and structure.
To increase his sportsmanship compared to the almost wise Hellcat version, the Demon benefits from a slimming course that passes by the disappearance of the rear seat, floor mats and more strangely of the front passenger’s chair [ndla: it May be installed if the purchaser so wishes]. This big coupe is therefore a car of selfish essentially destined to the track or the speed and not to the exit in family. Thus modified the Dodge Challenger loses some 90 kg compared to the Hellcat and should announce an unladen mass of about 1795 kg or a weight / power ratio of the order of 2.37 kg / ch. That begins to speak seriously to the ears of lovers of runs or drag races.
The supercharged V8 6.2 L is always used by the BVA8 but it takes advantage of a new mode of operation which pushes the case further than do the usual Launch Control modes.
So the Launch Control becomes on the Challenger Demon, the Drag Race mode. It now takes into account the management of the Bilstein controlled damping in order to better control the mass transfers and optimize in all circumstances the traction and precision of the steering.
In addition to the suspension and power transmission system, the TransBrake is added. This new system allows Dodge to improve by about 30% the reaction time compared to the best launch control of the moment. With the TransBrake, The brake pedal must be forgotten since the front brake will now be handled by the left hand of the driver who will press the paddle on the steering wheel.
According to Dodge, the hands being closer to the brain, the reaction time is much shorter than to go to the foot. If the idea is interesting, it will be necessary to check on the asphalt what this gives.

Finally, in order to effectively complete this new Drag Race mode, Dodge adds a lock on the BVA output shaft which allows a reserve or additional torque to be sent to the rear wheels in record time. 150 milliseconds after the driver has pressed the paddle on the left of the steering wheel. Officiating with the Torque Reserve system, This principle makes it possible during the starting phases to dispense with brakes up to 2350 rpm, to increase for a moment the supercharging pressure by 105% and finally to obtain a greater engine torque and of the order of 120% relative to the origin.
We also discover that the air conditioning will do more than refresh the pilot, since when the Drag Race mode is activated, the latter sends fresh air into the cooling system as well as into the intake of the HEMI V8. According to Dodge, this “No Ice” mode allows the engine to display performance similar to that it would have in Alaska in cold weather and it ensures a more pleasant and lasting life to the powertrain.
