With its original look, the 2018 BMW i3 detonates in the automotive landscape. A difference cultivated by the brand and which will in no way be altered by this first discrete restylage, but which is accompanied by a new version vitamin.
Despite its relative lack of success around the world, the BMW i3 is, according to the Bavarian brand, the most sold premium electric compact in the world . A status easy to claim when you are the only representative of the type … But for the German, out of question to abdicate, the time of the restyling sounded. A discrete update that comes one year after the installation of a new 33 kWh battery and which extended its autonomy to 300 km (410 km with the extender) according to optimistic cycle NEDC homologation. Aesthetically speaking, difficult to talk about revolution. The redesigned front bumper now incorporates horizontal LED bars acting as a turn signal (instead of round fog lamps) andtwo new body colors (red and dark blue) integrate the catalog of the electric compact. And it\’s not the new rims or the rear bumper slightly modifiedthat will change the deal.
A more dynamic S version
To find a hint of real novelty, it is necessary to turn to the unpublished i3S version . Slightly sharper, it develops 184 hp (14 hp more) and improves the exercise from 0 to 100 km / h by 0.4 seconds (6.9) . Not enough to turn this eco-chic into a true sportsman, but the house engineers have still concocted some specific adjustments, such as a lowered plate of 10 mm, widened tracks of 40 mm, firmed suspensions and a recalibrated direction . A new Sport mode delivering a better response of the accelerator also appears, history to reduce a little more autonomy … Externally, this version S also benefits fromsome tricks like wing diffusers, specific rims and a black finish of the uprights and the flag.
Side equipment, ditto, no novelty. Only the multimedia system incorporates new features such as danger alerts transmitted via other connected vehicles, location of available seats in town and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The new 2018 BMW i3 and its i3 S version will be presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show , which opens its doors on September 14th.
