2017 Hyundai i10, At the end of 2016, Hyundai slightly renewed the i10, a five-door, 3,66-meter-long tourism launched in 2013 . The most significant changes affect the look and equipment available, which can be extensive. It is on sale from 10 240 euros with a gasoline engine of 66 hp and from 11 565 with one of 87 . The 2017 Hyundai i10 is an alternative to cars like the Volkswagen up! , SEAT Mii and Š koda Citigo , Opel KARL or Renault Twingo , among others. Of these models it is only comparatively cheaper the KARL, that, with a motor of 75 HP and more equipment, is available for 9637 euros. Although there are alternatives like the Suzuki Celerio or the Fiat Pandawhich are also cheaper, are not comparable because they have a lower overall quality, worse dynamic qualities and less possibilities of equipment. The KIA Picanto shares platform with the previous generation Hyundai i10 . Equal motor and equipment is somewhat less expensive, but the interior space is smaller and its reactions are worse than the current i10.
With respect to the 2014 model, the design changes are due to the incorporation of new bumpers, a different grille, redesigned side moldings and daylight headlights located next to the main headlights. There are also new models of alloy steel and 14-inch diameter alloy wheels.
In the passenger compartment, the most important change over the 2014 model is in the multimedia system, which can now have a seven-inch touch screen and compatibility with Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto Google communication systems. In addition, Hyundai offers a free subscription to the LIVE service for seven years, which provides real-time traffic data, local weather prediction or fixed-speed camera positioning. This screen has made a good impression because it is easy to use, hardly produces reflections and is located in the upper part of the dashboard.
The 2017 Hyundai i10 console is a good example of how a good design can be compatible with functionality without prioritizing it. All the controls are within easy reach and are arranged in a logical and simple way. There are physical buttons to access the main menus of the multimedia system that do not have to focus on the screen while driving. In addition, the interior coating plastics are hard-touch but look good and appear to be solidly bonded together.
The use of the space in the passenger compartment is good but not remarkable, since it is in a middle point between its alternatives . There is room for four adults, provided that they are not very large, to accommodate without any stress. It is approved for five seats but the rear center is more uncomfortable than the sides and the width is scarce for three people to travel. The trunk, which has 252 liters of capacity, is the largest among its rivals with the exception of the Suzuki Celerio, which has 254 liters. The range of engines, as in the previous model, is composed of two atmospheric gasoline . From the smaller engine there is a version prepared to use LPG or gasoline. One has three cylinders, 1.0 liter displacement and 66 hp power (with both gasoline and LPG). The other has four cylinders, 1.2 liters and 87 hp. Both are associated with a five-speed manual gearbox, although the higher power can also be ordered with an automatic four-link.
Hyundai has also made small adjustments in steering (the gear ratio is different) and in the suspension (there are new rubber stops) with the aim of improving the guidance and the reactions of the vehicle.
We have briefly tested an i10 with 87 hp engine and manual gearbox in a presentation of the model to the press in Madrid. This engine runs smoothly and moves the i10 with plenty of agility to move around the city and its surroundings. With it, it goes very well from standing and reaches the normal speed of urban traffic with a speed similar to that can achieve other large and powerful cars. When exiting to highway or highway, it is necessary to revolutionize the motor very much to circulate with agility. Up to about 4000 rpm (which is where the engine delivers maximum torque) does not provide a large acceleration capability.
From the i10 2014 we tested for a week a unit with the 66 hp engine. We said that it was more than enough for an urban use. In any case, for those who are going to use the car frequently outside the city, it is better to opt for the more powerful engine.
Apart from its engines, the i10 has other dynamic qualities that place it among the best cars of similar size and price. It is comfortable because it filters the potholes well and their reactions feel proper to a somewhat larger car. This is something that also happens to a greater extent in the Volkswagen Up! and (although somewhat less) in the Opel KARL. It is a very easy to drive car because the elements that the driver operates are effortlessly handled and the visibility and maneuverability are good.
Although the steering wheel has no depth control (something that happens in all its alternatives) it is easy for people of varied stature to find a good position when driving. In the models mentioned above, the driving tact is more direct: in the i10 the steering is not very informative, the pedals oppose very little resistance and the gear lever has some rather long and less precise strokes.
There are four levels of equipment available: Klass, Tecno, Tecno Plus and Style. The latter is only available with the most powerful engine. From the Klass level (10 390 euros) are standard items such as air conditioning, travel computer or a sound system with USB and Aux connections. In the Techno level (11 215 euros) are added the controls on the steering wheel, the Bluetooth connection, the rear electric windows or the programmer and the speed limiter. The Tecno Plus (11 965 euros) already has the multimedia system associated with the seven-inch touch screen and the TomTom browser.
With the Style equipment level (€ 14,270), the new i10 has two safety-related equipment elements that were not present in the model it replaces: a front collision warning system and a warning of inadvertent lane change .
