he Stelvio is the first all-terrain vehicle in Alfa Romeo. Its platform, with modifications – same battle but greater height to the ground and width of ways -, is the same that the one of the Giulia .
It is on sale from € 37,119 with a 150 horsepower Diesel engine, rear wheel drive and eight speed automatic gearboxes. There are also two other diesel engines, with 180 and 210 horsepower. There are two gasoline, 200 and 280 horses. The QV version of 510 horses will arrive later (there is also a QV version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia). There is no provision for a hybrid version.
The more economical version has a much higher price than a similar power Škoda Kodiaq , automatic gearshift and front-wheel drive. A Mitsubishi Outlander or Honda CR-V , both with automatic transmission and full-wheel drive, Are a bit cheaper. In turn, the Stelvio is less expensive than a Volvo XC60, a BMW X3 and an Audi Q5 – this is only available with all-wheel drive.
If we choose models similar to the Stelvio with 210-horsepower Diesel engine, the situation is similar to that in the previous case: there are a few less cheaper, while luxurious alternatives (such as the Jeep Cherokee , Mercedes-Benz GLC , Jaguar F- Pace , BMW X3 or Audi Q5) have a higher price.
If we look for alternatives to the top-of-the-range versions of the Alfa Romeo (with a 280-horsepower petrol engine), alternatives such as the Porsche Macan appear .
The advantage with which Alfa Romeo wants to face its competitors is to offer a driving much more similar to that of a (good) tourism than any of them. Until we test it in detail it is difficult to know if it is as good as the Macan, by now the most sporty model of all. What we do not doubt, is that it is dynamically above the majority. In addition, the Stelvio has a comfortable suspension (not soft) and the cabin is well insulated from the outside. As with the Giulia, the Stelvio has a very fast steering that, once you take the quiet (maybe there is someone who is missing a period of adaptation), makes driving in the city more comfortable (you have to turn little The steering wheel to turn the wheels) and is very accurate on the road.
Regarding its quality of finishes is closer to the models that cost less than the most expensive. Although it has details of the models of greater price – like the wood or the aluminum with which it is possible to decorate some zones of the passenger compartment; all other coating materials are similar to those that, for example, can be found on a Mazda CX-5 .
In the equipment there are missing elements – useful or not – offered by models that Alfa Romeo wants to compete with, such as a projected information system on the windshield, ventilated or massage seats, headlamps with an advanced adaptive lighting system Xenon, I do not know how well they illuminate), a higher quality rear camera or a set of cameras to give a zenith vision, an automatic parking system, wireless recharge zones for mobile phones (although it does have several USB Passenger compartment) or independent air conditioning settings for the rear seats.
It is available with four levels of equipment, which are: Stelvio (this is called the simplest), Super, Speciale, First Edition. The First Edition version, which will only be temporarily available, is equipped with a series of leather seats with all electrical and heated settings, multifunction steering wheel, sequential aluminum shift cams, wooden inserts, a multimedia system with 8 , 8 inches and the 7 “for the instrument cluster. The wheels are 20 inches in diameter and the brake calipers are red.
