2016 Toyota Fortuner Spy Shots and Release Date- The Toyota Fortuner, also known as the Toyota SW4, is a mid-sized SUV. Originally assembled only in Thailand, but later also in Indonesia and other countries, the Fortuner is built on the Toyota Hilux pickup truck platform. It features three rows of seats and is available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The Fortuner is part of Toyota’s IMV project in Thailand, which also includes the Toyota Hilux and the Kijang Innova (in Indonesia). Developed in large part by Toyota’s Thai operations, the Fortuner has piggybacked the success of the Hilux and is now built in a number of countries including India, Argentina and Indonesia, although outside Thailand its success has been mixed. However in the Sydney Morning Herald, Gillard who worked for the Toyota Technical Centre (TTC-AU) stated that the organization has been working on the Fortuner since 2006. In fact, this Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is designed in Thailand by Thai and Japanese engineers. However the facelift version of the IMVs vehicles including the Fortuner were designed in Australia by Toyota Australia which is also responsible for developing the next generation of the Fortuner. The Toyota Fortuner was first launched in India in 2009, and since then, has been the undisputed leader of the premium SUV segment. The Fortuner comes to us via CKD route and is assembled at Toyota Kirloskar’s facility in Karnataka. While the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is likely to be revealed through a set of images around the end of next year, it has emerged that the new model could make its public debut at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in early 2016.
While the Toyota Fortuner has been at the top of the sales charts in its segment, industry-watchers have been of the opinion that the popular SUV might have a tough time fending off the likes of the next generation Ford Endeavour, which is likely to be launched in India in the first-half of 2015. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the makers of this brawny SUV have been busy readying a comprehensive facelift of their high-selling SUV. Seen here on this page are the first-ever 2016 Toyota Fortuner images, which have been taken by a reader of the Overdrive magazine.

2016 Toyota Fortuner Release Date
In markets like Thailand, preferential tariff rates for pick-up passenger vehicles (PPVs) for SUVs that are derived from pick-up trucks mean that models like the Fortuner are taxed at a lower 20 percent excise duty, 10 percent lower than a regular 2-litre monocoque passenger-car-based SUV like the Honda CR-V.
Over in countries like Vietnam and Indonesia, where road conditions are poor and flash floods are common, pick-up truck derived MPVs like the Innova, with a tougher ladder-frame chassis and higher ground clearance are preferred over regular passenger-car-based models.
The all-new Hilux is expected to make its global debut in Thailand in late-2015 but it is not expected to go on sale in Malaysia until early 2016. Similarly for the Fortuner and Innova.
Judging from the spyshots seen here, both the Fortuner and Innova are expected to retain their familiar silhouettes.
