The fourth generation of the Lexus RX, presented at the show in New York, features the aggressive grille and body at the outside corners who sign the latest creations of the brand. Best-selling model in the range Lexus since the launch of the brand 26 years ago, the Lexus RX represents almost one third of the sales of all Lexus models sold in the world, more than 2.1 million copies for the first three generations.
The fourth installment revealed to the New York salon breaks with relative discretion of its predecessor, to adopt a distinctive style, if not aggressive, already adopted by the rest of the range. The large trapezoidal grille and sharp edges of the body here suggest a dynamism in line with more than 300 horsepower delivered by the hybrid RX450h.
Another notable change, the odds of the body, including length, change significantly. With 4.89 m, the RX away NX, the compact family, moving closer to the BMW X5, Mercedes and Porsche Cayenne GLE who with their plug-in hybrid powertrains will be his most formidable competitors. One thing is certain, from the top of its 1.69 m, it remains a true SUV has, moreover, all-wheel drive. see also :
What about engines?
Pick from a 3.5-litre petrol V6, with a ‘target output’ of 300bhp and a new eight-speed automatic transmission, or a hybrid version.
Hybrid power was a major selling point for the previous-gen RX, so expect plenty of emphasis on petrol-electric power within the new range. The Mk4 hybrid RX will supplement a less powerful 3.5-litre V6 with electric motor with 300bhp once again the target, according to Lexus.
The wheelbase increased by 50 mm promises better habitability. Inside, Lexus announced a wide HUD, a central screen of 12.3 inches and the distance from the gear shift of the dashboard for easy handling. Shift paddles will be reserved for the F Sport which will also benefit from the AVS damping control in series and active stabilizer bars to transfer virtually flat. The new Lexus RX 450h will arrive in France in December.
