The new Mercedes A-Class will debut gasoline engines

New Mercedes M260 petrol engine with integrated ISG. Last year 2010 Daimler and Renault-Nissan announced a strategic cooperation agreement for the following years for which they were committed to share mechanics and develop new models together , such as the Smart Fortwo and Forfour twins and Renault Twingo .

Successively, this agreement has been improving over time by adding new partnerships, highlighting a new generation of gasoline engines that will see the light in 2018 with the new Class A , followed by the future Class B and the new generations of CLA , Mercedes A-Class, GLA and GLB.

The new propellers are all four-cylinder, direct gasoline injection with turbo Twinscroll type and four options : the smaller are known as M282 and comprise 1.2 liter and 1.4 liters , while the most powerful 1.6 liters and 2.0 Liter are known as M260.

As you can see, all the aforementioned models mount the engine in transverse position and are front or integral, and these blocks are designed to be mounted exclusively on this type of models, although Mercedes, which is always very cautious, has a variant Of the M260 known as M264 that can be mounted in longitudinal front position and rear traction .

The latter, 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter, feature four valves per cylinder, chain distribution and variable valve timing CAMTRONIC, plus a Twinscroll turbocharger With an electric actuator of the discharge valve. But, the most interesting of these two blocks falls on the option of greater displacement.

The new Mercedes A40 AMG, a sports version inferior to the future A45 AMG.

We already know that Mercedes plans an A40 AMG sports version that will offer a maximum power of 340 hp, thanks to a “mild hybrid” system that has a 48 V power grid and a belt driven generator providing an extra 14 hp to a Maximum engine speed of 2,500 rpm.

At the same time, it allows partially recovering the kinetic energy of the vehicle and storing it in a battery for the 48V system. Even the combustion engine can be switched off with a spark plug function.

Another interesting innovation we have seen recently is the Class A Hybrid. It was rumored a plug-in hybrid version of the new Class A but we had never seen it and that the development of the new compact is very advanced.

For this model it was assumed that Mercedes could move the configuration of the Class C 350e with a gasoline engine of 2.0 liters and an electric motor. But, there are important news and it will not be so. For the new Mercedes A-Class Hybrid, a new hybrid set will be fitted with the new 1.4-liter M282 petrol block and an electric motor that will be located ahead of the transmission .
