Hyundai has shared additional details regarding its 2022 Kona which will debut in the coming months. If we had not already been announced the arrival of an N version, we would be talking about great news. We fall back on the latter which nevertheless informs us of an increase in the power of the 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder.
The base engine for the Kona 2022 will be the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that’s currently on offer. The latter delivers 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. With the turbocharged engine that comes with a few more upscale versions of the model (including the Kona N Line), it sees its capacity drop from 175 to 195 horsepower (torque remains unchanged at 195 lb-ft).
Hyundai has also replaced the six-speed automatic transmission associated with the base engine with a Smartstream continuously variable transmission which the company says will help reduce fuel consumption. The seven-speed EcoShift transmission that accompanies the turbo engine has been modified to provide better performance, again according to Hyundai.
For the rest, we have already reported on other changes to the regular and electric versions, as well as details about the new N Line version. And of course, we are also waiting for the N variant which will arrive a little later in 2021.
