The BMW GT car is still not popular with the public. She leaves the Series 5 series to join the Series 6 family. Unfortunately, the design still lacks finesse. But the habitability is progressing and the chest is giant!
Wobbly position, silhouette not elegant: in the BMW range , the 5 Series GT looked like a casting error. The commercial flop could only confirm this impression. Yet, the brand decides to give it a sequel!
Truly amazing, especially at a time when more and more customers are turning to the SUVs, which are not lacking in BMW (there will be eight models end of 2018 X). The brand takes the opportunity to change the nomenclature. This variant Gran Turismo now incorporates the Series 6 range, a choice that shows a willingness to bring up the car range and play the card of the coupe. As a reminder, at BMW, the GT is a stretched and hatchback version of a sedan, which takes on a two-volume appearance (there is no apparent trunk).
The most important point on this model is undoubtedly the design. Did BMW make this model more elegant? Not really: the stern remains very heavy, even if the mark tries to make illusion with more stretched fires. But the awkward cut of the third side window betrays the backpacking effect. We note that the front face is unprecedented, to distinguish well with the family Series 5 .
But for savings, the dashboard is taken back to BMW\\’s roadside, which is not a bad thing. The presentation is chic and sober, with the essential features of the brand: instrumentation on black background, console oriented towards the driver, wheel of the system iDrive … Difference compared to Series 5: the driving position is elevated.
The car is a large gauge, with a length of 5.09 meters, 9 cm more compared to the old model and only 1 cm less compared to the 7 Series ! BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé highlights its habitability, with a very generous wheelbase of 3.07 meters. To maintain passenger comfort, the air suspension at the rear is standard. The trunk is also very generous, with 610 liters, a gain of 110 liters. The loading threshold has been lowered. The bench folds down in the 40/20/40 format with keys in the hold.
The range of engines at launch will be restricted. There will be two essences, with the 630i equipped with a four-cylinder 258 hp and the 640i with a six-cylinder 340 hp. A diesel will be on the menu, the 630d with six cylinders 265 hp. The 8-speed automatic transmission is standard. It is connected to GPS, to optimize the shift of the reports according to the profile of the road. The 640i and 630d will be available with the xDrive all-wheel drive. Consumption benefits from a weight that has lost up to 150 kg.
The list of equipment includes the latest innovations of the brand, such as automated parking, the driver drops off the car and the car parked alone. There is also a variety of aids that give you a taste of autonomous driving, such as active cruise control and steering assist.
The 6-Series GT will be one of BMW\\’s many new features at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Competition? What competition! It is indeed difficult to classify the Gran Turismo at BMW, as they seem to want to play on two tables (even three): sedan, station wagon and even SUV. From a strictly dimensional point of view, this 6 GT Series plays midway between Mercedes E-Class and S-Class, or between Audi A6 and Audi A8. But it is nonetheless less exclusive and high-end than a Mercedes S-Class or even a BMW 7 Series. It is nevertheless much more accessible than a 7 Series with rates starting at 63,900 €.
At this price, however, we will have to be satisfied with the Lounge finish which is frankly not the most flattering. And while the “30” meant six-cylinder 3.0 at the time, nowadays, a 630i is actually equipped with the four-cylinder 2.0 turbo of 258 hp, which is obviously correct, but remember that we are on a 5.09 meters! To qualify for something worthy of the 6th Series coat of arms, one must pass on the 640i or on the 630d, but prices explode: from 70,950 and 72,700 euros respectively. And again, it will be necessary to draw from the side of the options to have a level at the height of the performances of the craft.
