The covers are gradually falling on the new Nissan Qashqai , which will hit the market in 2021. After there was already information on the technology, a detailed look into the interior of the popular compact SUV follows . As far as can be seen, the result can be summarized as follows: higher quality and more practical. It is doubtful whether all the things shown here will also be standard on the base.
New seat materials – elaborately produced nappa leather with a 3D diamond quilting design – create an inviting and relaxing environment on board. The top versions of the two front seats have a new massage function with three selectable programs that are controlled via the NissanConnect system. The white ambient lighting bathes the interior in a warm, calming light.
Particular attention was paid to the operation and quality of switches and buttons. The layout of the center console also focused on ergonomics and ease of use. Examples of this are the smaller gear selector lever for the automatic versions and the driving mode switch of the all-wheel drive versions, which with its matt chrome ring and piano lacquer finish combines ease of use and a high-quality look.
Apple CarPlay also wirelessly for the first time
The advanced infotainment system of the new Qashqai includes numerous networked functions and services, including the problem-free integration of smartphones, a WiFi hotspot for up to seven devices and NissanConnect services, a special app for controlling and monitoring the vehicle remotely.
The central display of the NissanConnect system, enlarged to nine inches, has a higher resolution and serves as a digital control center for navigation, entertainment and vehicle settings. Smartphones can be integrated via Apple CarPlay (for the first time also wirelessly) and Android Auto. Various user profiles can be created to save personal navigation, music and system settings.
Whether the music comes from one of the DAB radio stations or from a connected smartphone via streaming: the best playback is guaranteed thanks to the Bose premium sound system with ten speakers. According to Nissan, the Bose Acoustimass bass box in the trunk provides a cheap sound that everyone on board can enjoy, not just the driver and front passenger.
10.8 inch head-up display
The new high-resolution 12.3-inch TFT display offers various configurable layouts and shows information on navigation, entertainment, traffic or vehicle depending on the setting; it is operated via a new control on the steering wheel.
The new 10.8-inch head-up display provides important information about the vehicle, navigation and assistance systems in the driver’s direct field of vision on the windshield, so that the driver can concentrate fully on the traffic situation.
The Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants are also finding their way into the Qashqai – and with them a multitude of new functions that connect the car with the home. Navigation destinations can be communicated to the voice assistant at home; when you get into the Qashqai, the best route has long been programmed.
TomTom 3D Maps & Live Traffic Navigation
Vehicle functions such as horn and lighting can be controlled and the doors locked and unlocked remotely using a smartphone app. The app user can also receive notifications if the vehicle exceeds previously set speeds, usage times or zones. The user is also informed about urgent maintenance work and malfunctions via the app, which also saves the driving history and enables an analysis of the driving data.
Instead of smartphone navigation, TomTom 3D Maps & Live Traffic Navigation is also available: with wireless map updates, real-time traffic information, Google Street View and information on fuel prices.
In the event that the Qashqai is stolen, the new “Stolen Vehicle Tracking” function comes into play. It includes round-the-clock contact with the police and third-party customer service, with automatic notification of theft via the NissanConnect smartphone app to track down and retrieve the stolen vehicle.
Enlarged windshield and narrower front pillars
For the first time, the Qashqai has a charging cradle for wireless smartphone charging in the front of the center console, which with 15 watts of charging power is one of the most powerful in the segment and is also suitable for larger devices such as the recently introduced Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max. In addition, the driver, front passenger and also the occupants in the rear seats can connect their electronic devices to USB-A and USB-C ports on the center console.
In keeping with the model’s Japanese DNA, the Qashqai’s warning and notification tones were developed in collaboration with Japanese video game developer Bandai Namco. The melodic two-tone acoustics, for example for the seat belt warning device and the turn signal, appear more harmonious than the tones used previously.
Restrictions on the field of vision have been further reduced: The enlarged windshield, narrower front pillars and exterior mirrors, which are mounted on the doors instead of the A-pillar, ensure an unobstructed view to the front and to the sides.
More knee room in the rear
The longer wheelbase compared to the previous model and the efficient packaging mean even more space in the interior for the occupants. The knee room in the rear increased by 28 to 608 mm, the headroom in the front and rear increased by 15 mm, and there is more space between the driver and front passenger.
Because the driver’s seat can now be further adjusted in height and length, drivers of all heights between 1.45 meters and 1.92 meters can find a comfortable seating position. In the highest equipment line, there is also a tilt adjustment for the seat. A memory function is also available here for the driver and front passenger seats, in order to save the seat settings for different drivers.
For better lateral support when cornering dynamically, the shape of the backrest and upholstery as well as the angle of the seat cushions have been further optimized. The new optional steering wheel heating offers additional comfort on cold winter days.
Luggage compartment: 74 liters more cargo space
With 504 liters, the trunk will in future offer 74 liters more load volume than before; This is made possible by the optimized packaging in the area of the rear wheel suspension and the associated lowering of the loading floor by 20 mm.
The electrically operated tailgate can be opened without contact if required. Popular features such as the side storage compartments above the wheel arches are retained, and the Flexi-Board cargo space system is available again and has been further improved: with a new shape and a robust carpet cover on one side and washable plastic on the other.
Dual lighting helps when loading and unloading in the dark; for example, an electric cool box for camping can be connected to the new 12-volt socket in the luggage compartment.
The storage compartments in the interior have also been optimized. The two cup holders at the front are now a little further apart, which makes it easier to remove smaller cups. While the door pockets of the previous model could only fit a maximum of 0.5 liter bottles, there is now space for 1.5 liter bottles. The modified door openings make it easier to get in and out than the previous model, which pays off especially in tight parking spaces.
