The Lexus ES is a survivor. Struck between the sporty GS and the more luxurious LS, the ES sedan has been on the market since 1989, covering six generations, including a refresh since 2015. In accordance with the times, Lexus plans to deploy a brand new Version for model year 2019 The spy photos show that the luxury sedan hits the desert with some of its closest competitors.
This is the second time the new ES has been photographed, but we can not see much under this camouflage. What is quite clear is that Lexus ES is brand new. Taking the example of smaller GS, the ES will decrease considerably, including a sharper roof line and a more athletic profile. It seems relatively slim against rivals like Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6, and borrows some evidence from the more athletic IS.
The 2019 Lexus ES will ride on Toyota’s new global architecture (TNGA) – the same platform that underlies the Prius – but will continue to use the same V6 and hybrid powertrain configuration. The 3.5-liter V6 found in the current ES produces 268 horsepower (213 kilowatts) and 248 pound-feet (336 Newton-meters) torque. The front wheel drive will come standard, while an integral version of the driving wheels is very likely.
No one knows exactly when the new ES will appear, but reports suggest that it could make its debut next year at the New York Auto Show. The new and improved ES will join the biggest LS, which debuted earlier in the year in Detroit, as well as a small UX crossover, which we saw debut in the concept in 2016.
