The Opel Insignia Country Tourer, a variant of the Insignia Sports Tourer – the family car body – with 2 cm more ground clearance (11 cm), some changes in its appearance and the possibility of having total traction. Deliveries begin in November 2017.
At the moment there are two engines available for Opel Insignia Country Tourer, one gasoline -2.0 Turbo 260 hp and one Diesel -2.0 CDTI 170 hp. The first can only be ordered with full-wheel drive, while Diesel is also available with front-wheel drive. Later two other versions will be released: 1.5 Turbo 140 hp and 2.0 CDTi 210 hp.
By size, the nearest alternatives to the Opel Insignia Country Tourer are the Audi A6 Allroad , the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain and the Volvo V90 Cross Country but by price are the Audi A4 Allroad , the Subaru Outback and the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack . The Insignia Country Tourer with diesel engine of 170 hp and total drive costs 38 732 euros. It is a significantly lower price than a 163 Allroad A4 Allroad, similar to a Passat Alltrack of 150 hp and far superior to that of an Outback of 150 hp, all of them also with diesel engine and all-wheel drive.
The automatic all-wheel drive system consists of a rear differential in which two multi-disc clutches are housed. When open, the Insignia works with front-wheel drive; when closed, with four-wheel drive. These clutches are actuated separately, which allows to individually manage the torque on each wheel and modulate it depending on the degree of coupling of each clutch. This makes it possible to act on the path of the car in the curves to, for example, reduce understeer by increasing the torque on the outer rear wheel.
The equipment is similar to other Insignia. Among the possible are: headlamp LEDs (Opel calls them IntelliLux LED), the assistant for involuntary change of lane , active speed programmer with emergency braking, cross traffic warning alert (useful to avoid accidents when going out behind battery-backed parking lots), the head-up information system , a parking assistant, four cameras that give a zenith of what is around the body, a parking assistant or multimedia systems IntelliLink compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The lower parts of the body – bumpers, bottom doors and wheel arches – are coated with unpainted plastic. The roof bars support 100 kg and the rear seats can be folded in three parts (40:20:40) to introduce bulky objects.
