2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS – Mercedes-Benz will put the third generation of the CLS on sale in March 2018, at which time it will replace the 2015 model l I. As in the previous two generations, it has four doors and a silhouette that can be reminiscent of a coupe due to the steep drop at the end of the roof.
At the moment we do not know the exact size of its body (the CLS 2015 measures 4.94 meters in length, 1.88 m in width and 1.42 m in height). By design, some of its main alternatives are the Audi A7 Sportback , the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Porsche Panamera . For the first time, Mercedes-Benz offers five seats in this model (in previous generations it has had four).
Initially, the range will be composed of three versions, all with in-line six-cylinder engines, automatic gearbox and 4MATIC total traction. There is a Diesel – CLS 350d of 286 HP – and two of petrol – CLS 400 of 340 HP and CLS 450 of 367 HP – . The latter has a 48-volt electrical system that serves to power various auxiliary systems of the vehicle, but also to generate 22 HP and 250 Nm additional at specific times through the machine that makes alternator and electric motor (Mercedes-Benz calls this system « EQ Boost » ). Later, Mercedes-Benz will add more versions with gasoline and diesel engines and with traction on the rear wheels.
2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS
2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS suspension – There are three types of suspension: the standard one, called the ” comfort running gear ” and two optional ones: “DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL ” , with electronically controlled shock absorbers and ” AIR BODY CONTROL ” , which also adds pneumatic springs for both axles. As with most Mercedes-Benz models, there are several predefined driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport ) that modify the steering, engine, gearbox and suspension (if installed) one with possibility of adjustment).
In the passenger compartment, the design changes with respect to the previous model are large. Now, the screen of the multimedia system and the one that serves as instrumentation are contiguous, they are placed in the same plane, and measure 12.3 inches each. There is an ambient lighting system with 64 selectable colors and various moldings for the dashboard and doors, some of them made of open pore wood. The outputs of the ventilation system are similar to those of the next generation of Class A and, as in this one, they may be illuminated.
2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS Trunk
The trunk has 520 liters, 45 more than the model it replaces and 20 less than the Class E . Faced with its main alternatives is on average, is a bit lower than that of an Audi A7 Sportback (535 l) and greater than that of a BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe (460 l) and a Porsche Panamera (495 l) . To increase the volume available, it is possible to fold the backs of the rear seats (they do so in 40:20:40 proportions).
The CLS may have many items of equipment that were not available in the previous model. One of them, which Mercedes-Benz calls « Energising comfort control », controls several comfort systems of the vehicle at the same time (climate control, music, fragrances and ambient lighting, among others) and adapts them according to the mood of the driver. There are six predefined programs: Freshness, Heat, Vitality, Pleasant Environment, Wellness and Training. It is a system similar to that of the S-Class .
You can also have numerous items related to safety and driving assistants. As standard, it includes an emergency braking system in the city with pedestrian detection, an alert for involuntary carriage change , a system for recognizing some traffic signals and the occupant protection system in case of impact (PRE- SAFE Sound). The latter emits a sound through the vehicle’s speakers to prepare the inner ear and thus protect it from loud sounds (such as an impact).
Optionally you can also have systems such as an active speed programmer with automatic stop and restart, a head-up display or headlights called ULTRA RANGE which, according to Mercedes-Benz, generate the maximum light intensity allowed by legislation.
As in other Mercedes-Benz models, during the first year of commercialization of the CLS, a special version called Edition 1 will be available, which will include specific equipment: seats covered in black nappa leather, copper-colored seams for the center console, armrest, instrument panel and door trim and a grill with matt chrome inserts.
