2017 Volvo XC60 Specs
The D5 version of 235 hp, which we have driven, will satisfy anyone who wants a car of these characteristics comfortable – by suspension and noise – with a cozy cabin and an engine with an acceleration capacity more than enough to Move with agility. The automatic transmission, which is eight gears, has an exquisite performance because of the smoothness with which it makes the gears.
This XC60 we tested during the presentation to the press was equipped with all the equipment possible, including the pneumatic suspension with adaptive damping, so the reference to the comfort of the same we do not know if it is extrapolable to the suspension series (which is Of helical coil springs in front and of transverse leaf spring of composite material behind, according to Volvo, this solution is lighter and, dispensing with the helical springs, leaves more space for the trunk).
The XC60 measures 4.69 m in length and 1.90 m in width (although the data to take into account is 1.99 m, which is what it occupies with folded mirrors). It is a spacious car for four passengers but stands out from its alternatives in size and range of similar engines, which are models like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio , the Audi Q5 , the BMW X3 ( Which will be renovated in 2018), the Jaguar F-PACE , the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Porsche Macan . The Infiniti QX50 and Lexus NX can also be considered alternatives, although with a much smaller version offer.
Volvo has developed the XC60 on the SPA modular platform, which is the same starting point of the 90 series ( S90 , V90 and XC90 ) models , with which it shares multitude of elements, from controls-like start button between The seats, the knob of the gearshift, the screen oriented vertically of the multimedia system Sensus or the front seats – to the majority of the driving assistants.
They are majority and not all because, in the XC60, Volvo has released three new functions (soon to be incorporated into the 90 series models). All three have to do with the automatic action of the steering to avoid, or diminish the consequences, of a possible accident. It does this in three cases: between 50 and 100 km / h during a dodge maneuver (once initiated by the driver) to avoid a hit or run over if the performance on the brakes is not enough. Between 60 and 140 km / h, to correct the path of the car if the XC60 is passed to the opposite lane and the driver does not react to the warnings made by the vehicle. Finally, the steering coordinates with the vehicle detection system in the blind spot of the mirrors so as not to hit them, Taking the lane through which it circulates if the driver does not. These functions are new in Volvo but not in the automotive industry, since there are different models that already have them. The Pilot Assist, the function that combines the active speed programmer with the maintenance assistant in the lane, is optional.
The engines are already known from the 90 series and have all four cylinders and 1969 cm³. The differences between them, among other things, occur in the supercharging system which, in the case of gasoline, can be by turbocharger (T5) or a combination of this and an Eaton (T6 and T8) volumetric compressor .
T8 version of the XC60 is the most powerful, most expensive and the only one that is hybrid and plug . It has 407 hp of maximum power and a battery with 10.8 kWh of capacity that provides an electric autonomy, under conditions of homologation, of 45 km. Its complete recharging takes 3 or 4 hours depending on whether it is a 16 or 10 A plug. The diesel version that consumes the least is the D4 -5.2 l / 100 km, three tenths more than an Audi Q5 of 190 hp , Two more than a GLC of 204 hp and just like a BMW X3 of 190 hp, all with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission.
As usual in this type of car, the XC60 is not oriented to demanding use outside the asphalt, but with the right tires, the ground clearance of 216 mm and the system of all-wheel drive connectable automatically (Borg- Wagner) would allow to be developed by something more than a track in good condition.
