The Hyundai i30 CW 2017 (CW is the abbreviation of CrossWagon) is the family-bodied version of the i30 5-door 2017 and replacement of the model with the same name that Hyundai put on sale in 2012. It measures 4.58 meters in length and 1.47 meters in height, making it 24 centimeters longer and 1 cm higher than the i30 5 doors. The wheelbase is identical in both models: 2.65 meters.
The most affordable version has a petrol engine of 120 horses and costs 18 965 euros, a price that puts it at an intermediate point in front of rivals. With a diesel engine something similar happens: the most affordable version -1.6 CRDi 110 CV- costs 20,015 €, a price higher than that of a Peugeot 308 SW 1.6 BlueHDI 100 and a KIA cee\’d SW 1.6 CRDi 110 CV, but Lower than that of a SEAT Leon ST 1.6 TDI 115 hp and a Škoda Octavia Combi 1.6 TDI 115 hp. At equal engine and level of equipment, the Hyundai i30 CW is 690 euros more expensive than the i30 5 doors.
With 602 liters of capacity, the trunk of the Hyundai i30 CW stands out against that of its rivals. It is only surpassed by the Honda Civic Tourer (624 l), the Škoda Octavia Combi (610 l) and the Volkswagen Golf Variant (605 l). In addition, it can have numerous solutions to order the load and keep it fixed: nets, hooks, hangers and even aluminum rails in which different fasteners can be placed. In contrast, it can not have a gate with automatic opening and closing or a floor that can be placed at different heights.
The range of engines is very similar to that of the 5-door model. It is composed of two gasoline -1.0 T-GDi 120 hp and 1.4 T-GDi of 140 hp- and two Diesel -1.6 CRDi with 110 or 136 hp. All of them are associated with a six-speed manual gearbox, except for the higher power Diesel, which has an automatic double clutch and seven speeds (in the five-door range, this version can also be ordered with manual gearbox ). This automatic box is an option for the Diesel version of 110 hp and the petrol of 140 hp. All have a system of automatic start and stop of the engine in the arrests ( Start & Stop ).
During the presentation of the model we have briefly conducted versions 1.6 CRDi 110 hp and 1.0 T-GDi 120 hp. Both have in common motors that run smoothly and emit little noise. According to the data provided by Hyundai, the performance of these two versions are very similar, but the truth is that the gasoline feels always much more resolved to the movements on the accelerator. The Diesel has a much more linear power delivery and a lower fuel consumption, but does not seem to give an acceleration according to the declared power (when we measure its performance we will check if it is or not).
As with the five-door model, the i30 CW is simple to operate, comfortable suspension and good visibility to all angles (even though the rear quarter is a bit worse). Despite the increase in size and weight of the vehicle, their reactions have not seemed very different from those of the saloon.
The i30 CW is available with three levels of equipment: Klass Max, Tecno and Style Lux (the latter only for the most powerful diesel version). From the simplest level, Hyundai includes standard features such as two-zone climate control, speed controller, trip computer, rear parking assist camera, inadvertent lane change alert or automatic braking system Emergency in a city with pedestrian recognition.
In addition, some versions may also have other safety features and help with driving such as the blind spot detector , an active speed programmer with stop and restart of the gear in jams (only in combination with the automatic changeover) or A system of recognition of traffic signals . There is more information on some of these elements in the section Equipment of the i30 5 doors .
