The recently debuted in 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R comes with a starting MSRP of $ 69.995 per sources at Ford. That’s almost a $ 20,000 upgrade via the “base” Shelby GT350, which will be awarded “around the $ 50,000 Marks” (our source tells us $ 52.995), and our bet is that the additional cost of the model “R” will be worth it.
The GT350 uses the same “S550” platform that underpins the 2015 Mustang. We anticipate that this version will ride on a significantly stiffer suspension with adjustable dampers. Early test vehicles, spotted around the company’s Dearborn, Michigan, headquarters, wore cross-drilled carbon-ceramic brake rotors. Those mules were also rolling on 19-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer performance tires, with bodies pierced by a center hood vent and what appeared to be functional fender vents behind the front wheels.
The $ 70,000 brand is important, because it undermines the track-bred Camaro Z / 28 that a starting MSRP of $ 75,000 has. The GT350 and GT350R have been developed with both the Z / 28 as victims goal, and we think Ford has developed a level of opponents.
The “R” package adds significant track-oriented technology base GT350, including Magne Ride suspension and better tires, all while reducing weight. Thanks carbon wheels and a rear seat delete the GT350R will tip the scales around 150 kg lighter than the base GT350. We can not wait to see some real world numbers, stay tuned.
