Of course you can go for the Ferrari 488 GTB, Or maybe the McLaren 570S or Porsche 911 Turbo But none of them sounds as good as this car: the new Audi R8 V10 Plus With a naturally aspirated 5.2 V10 Which sounds… Like a supercar should sound! This morning we visited ‘Audi Centrum Van Den Udenhout’ in Eindhoven They are an official Audi Sport dealership which houses a lot of nice cars Think of all Audi RS models but also best of the best: the Audi R8!
2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus Review
The first Audi R8 was introduced in 2007 Everyone had his own opion about that car It was a strange car, a beautiful car, a fast car It was also the first supercar from Audi And now in 2016 we have a new Audi R8 V10 This new R8 is only available with a V10 engine. The former R8 was also available with a V8 engine This new model is from the beginning also available in its best form: the V10 Plus. What does the Plus stand for? Of course it’s the most powerful R8 you can get It also has the best options and costs €259.000,-
in the Netherlands It has 610hp, 0 to 100 km/h only takes 3,2 seconds In short: it sounds promising! It goes all the way up to 8000 rpm before it shifts to the next gear It has an S-tronic automatic gearbox. The same gearbox as the Lamborghini Huracan uses The Huracan is acutally and identical car which is a cooperation with Audi They share the same engine, powertrain, chassis and the gearbox Of course gave Audi its own touch to the R8 and you can feel that in every way.
The first R8 shared a lot of technology witht the Lamborghini Gallardo And those cars very look alike If I compare this new R8 with the Huracan, I feel quite a few differences I have read a lot about this car before today and yes it’s true… It’s 100% an Audi Which is a good thing of course, but you might expect more from a supercar. The first thing I noticed when I drove off in comfort mode, it drives like a normal car. Of course it’s powerful but it doesn’t feel like you’re driving a potential beast. I would expect some more when I buy a supercar with a price tag of €260.000,But I can also imagine that some people buy this car just because of the looks And not because of all the great specifications and numbers.
We have a button on the steering wheel what is called the Drive Selector. It gives the driver 4 options: comfort, automatic, dynamic and individual. I’m now selecting the dynamic mode, the gearbox is now a bit more alert The gearboxes changes to sport mode, I will put it in manual now so I can use the shifting paddles Back to second gear, I’m driving 70 km/h… 150 km/h! In short: the R8 is fast, really fast!
When I look at the other cars which I have mentioned before. They are all very fast, use great technology, maybe they look even better for being a supercar. But be honest, a supercar should sound like this R8! Audi keeps the spirit alive with a naturally aspirated V10, isn’t is great? It’s really fast for using an engine without turbo’s, it’s also responding very quick.
The interior also looks great with a lot of use of carbon fiber But I keep telling you; this sound is the best of the best! It gives a thrill, it’s awesome! This specific R8 has a pretty anonymous color, it’s a bit like carbon grey And despite the carbon side blades, it does not really stand out. Of course it stands out being a low sports car but it’s not screaming for attention I think the first R8 was a bit more like an eye-catcher.
Just like the Huracan of course, we drove an orange Huracan which isn’t a fair comparison actually But overall this R8 is pretyy anonymous and it also feels like that while driving it It’s very fast, it’s awesome to drive, it sounds great and it sure does give you a thrill.
But… I’m missing something. There is also a performance mode which is actually a track mode. We didn’t use it today, it’s raining and we are on the open road I think I have to drive this R8 on a track to really experience if can be a wild car. But at this point, it doesn’t feel like it Maybe also because of the powertrain, it has a new Quattro four-wheel drive system. It can send 100% of the power to the front wheels but also 100% to the rear wheels And it’s switching all the time to give you the best grip It feels really safe, it’s like a sports car for everyone
